Step One: Let us know you're interested in volunteering by filling out our Volunteer Sign-up Form.
Step Two: Attend an Orientation
Contact us for upcoming orientation dates.
Step Three: Fill out an application
After completing the volunteer sign-up form, you will be emailed the volunteer application materials. You can also contact our office at 612-767-9474 and ask to speak with our Volunteer Services Department.
Step Four: Submit to a Background Check
Make-A-Wish volunteers commonly are trusted to work directly with our wish families, and may handle Make-A-Wish resources (including money or donated goods) as they arrange wishes or volunteer at events. For the protection of the wish families and the Foundation itself, we require criminal background checks of all staff and volunteers.
Step Five: Activation
Once your application has been successfully screened, we will contact you to inform you of the good news. At this point you will be added to the weekly "Wish Wednesday" e-newsletter which outlines the most up to date volunteer opportunities.
Step Six: Additional Training
Additional training may be required, depending on the volunteer role you are most interested in. In order to become a Wish Granter, a required 5-hour training is offered at least once a quarter in the Twin Cities area. We also offer out-state trainings on a less frequent basis. All other volunteer roles begin immediately after activation. Contact the Volunteer Services Department for Wish Granter Training dates.
