Alycia... I wish to meet Ellen DeGeneres
Make-A-Wish celebrates 3000th wish!
This January, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Minnesota granted its 3000th wish to a 12-year-old girl from Columbia Heights. Alycia is an outgoing and talkative girl who likes to spend time watching movies and reading books. Throughout Alycia’s battle with Scleroderma, she has loved watching Ellen! So when she was asked about her wish, she immediately said she would like to meet Ellen DeGeneres.
After returning from the wish, Alycia and her family celebrated this milestone with a party at her favorite restaurant, Fuddruckers in Roseville! At the 3,000th wish celebration Alycia told our audience of family, friends, staff, volunteers and board members all about her trip! While in California, Alycia and her family enjoyed a week of fun in the sun – a nice break for the sub-zero temperatures in Minnesota! They got a VIP tour of Warner Brothers Studios, where she got to visit the back lot and see the sets of many popular movies and TV shows. When it came time to meet Ellen, Alycia and her mom were escorted to Ellen’s dressing room where they talked one-on-one, took photos and got autographs signed. Alycia loved the entire trip, but she was especially thrilled when she met Ellen!
Also at the celebration, one of the founding board members of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Ken Rogers spoke at the event. In 1982, Ken and his friend Steve Anderson rode their bicycles across 48 states to raise money for the newly founded Make-A-Wish Foundation of Minnesota. Ken recently published a book about his experience called Pedaling on Purpose and proceeds from the book sales will benefit Make-A-Wish.
Alycia represents the many children that have had magical wishes granted. Make-A-Wish would like to thank the volunteers, staff, board members and the community for helping to grant 3,000 wishes in the state of Minnesota. We look forward to granting 3,000 more!
